this is the privacy policy for rave-dar.com, the room for one night. it is written to be read standing in a line. the phone app will carry its own notice when it ships.
at the door. the photo you take or pick (your polaroid), a name of up to 24 characters, tonight's signal (open · fam night · music mode), who you're looking for if you add it, and your answer to the one prompt (“what are you doing at 2am?”) if you give one. nothing here is checked against an id; it is what you choose to show.
in the room. who you tap “find” on, and the moment it is mutual. after a mutual find: the spot and time you plan, the pulses and holds you send, and messages of up to 280 characters in that one thread. a found card, if the two of you make one.
after the night. frames you add to a night's gallery, and the one line you may leave under them. a card you were part of.
technical. an anonymous account id made in your browser the first time you enter a room (we never ask for an email or a password on the web). the link you arrived from, kept as a short source tag so we know whether the QR at the door or a share brought you. first-party counts of pages viewed and taps made inside the room. the usual server logs: ip address, browser, time. blocks and reports you file, with what you wrote in them.
no location. the web room never asks for gps. no contacts, no camera roll beyond the one photo you pick, no third-party analytics, no ad pixels, no cookies for tracking. we do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
if you add a phone number after pinning a polaroid, it is used for at most two texts about that room, sent through twilio: one when doors open, one if something is missing from your card. no marketing, no other texts. we do not share phone numbers or text opt-in with anyone for their marketing. reply STOP to stop; reply HELP for help; or remove the number from your own card and nothing else gets texted. msg & data rates may apply.
to run the room for one night: show your polaroid to the people in the same room, open a thread when a find is mutual, help the two of you meet. to keep the room safe: blocks, reports, and removing what breaks the rules. to learn what works: which door brought people in and where the loop breaks, as counts, never as a feed of who did what. to keep proof the night happened: the gallery.
people in the same room, while it is open, see your polaroid, name, signal and 2am line. photos are stored at long, unguessable links that are not listed anywhere, but anyone holding such a link can open it; treat a polaroid as something you would show a stranger in the line, because that is what it is. nobody sees who you tapped unless they tapped you too. a thread is visible to the two people in it and nobody else. a found card and the gallery frames are public at their own links; anyone with the link can open them, which is the point of a keepsake. the founders can see everything in order to moderate.
the room fades a few hours after the night ends and the wall comes down from view. found cards and gallery frames stay at their links until someone in them takes them down. blocks and reports are kept so they keep working. counts are kept as counts. your anonymous id lives in your browser until you clear it; clearing it disconnects you from everything tied to it.
take your polaroid off the wall from your own card, any time, before or during the night; the photo is deleted. take down a frame you added with “take it down” on the gallery. remove a line you left. block or report anyone from their card or thread. to have anything else tied to your anonymous id deleted, or to ask what we hold under it, write to us from the browser you used, or send the room and the name you went by, and we will remove it.
the database, anonymous accounts and photo storage run on supabase, in the united states. the site is served by vercel. event listings come from edmtrain and contain no personal data. no other company receives your data.
rave-dar.com is for adults: 18 and over, or 21 and over where the venue says so. if you are under 18 do not enter a room; if we learn that someone is, we remove them.
when the door collects something new, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. questions and requests: privacy@rave-dar.com.
